Punjab extends stamp duty rebate till April 30

The decision by the state has been taken to cash in on the property registration rush seen in Punjab.

In a move to capitalize on the huge response it has received from the move, the Punjab government has decided to extend the last day to offer rebate on stamp duty and associated charges on property registration till April 30, 2023. The earlier deadline to avail of the 2.5% relaxation on stamp duty and associated charges was valid from March 1 to March 31, 2023.

“Those opting for registration of land will now be exempted from 1% additional stamp duty, 1% PIDB (Punjab Infrastructure Development Board) fees and 0.25 % special fees. A notification in this regard has been issued by the state government,” said Punjab revenue minister Bram Shanker Jimpa on March 2, 2023.

With the continuation of the rebate, male homebuyers in Punjab will pay 4.75% stamp duty on property and land registration during till April 30, 2023, while women will pay 2.75% stamp duty on the same. Typically, stamp duty on property in Punjab ranges between 7 and 5%.
