Govt fast-tracks Delhi Metro Rithala-Kundli corridor

The project was discussed during the 65th meeting of the NPG of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

February 9, 2024: The Rithala-Bawana-Narela–Kundli (Haryana) Metro Corridor of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was discussed during the 65th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan on February 9.

The Rithala-Bawana-Narela–Kundli (Haryana) Metro Corridor is an extension of the currently operational Shaheed Sthal-Rithala Red Line corridor. This will be Delhi Metro’s first-ever corridor to connect Haryana and Uttar Pradesh via Delhi.

The entire corridor will be 27.319 km, comprising 22 stations. While 26.339 km will be elevated, about 0.89 km will be at grade. Of the 22 stations, 21 will be elevated and one will be at grade. The proposed stations on this corridor are Rithala, Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31, Rohini Sector 32, Rohini Sector 36, Barwala, Rohini Sector 35, Rohini Sector 34, Bawana Industrial Area–1 Sector 3, 4, Bawana Industrial Area – 1 Sector 1,2, Bawana JJ Colony, Sanoth, New Sanoth, Depot Station, Bhorgarh village, Anaj Mandi Narela, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela, Narela Sector 5, Kundli and Nathpur.

According to a statement issued by the commerce ministry, this project will play a pivotal role in nation-building by integrating various modes of transport, offer substantial socio-economic benefits and will contribute to the overall development of the regions.

“The project will result in multi-modal integration of the metro with bus and rail stations, decongestion of roads, travel time savings, fuel cost savings, reliable operation and performance, and reduction in vehicular emission and pollution,” the ministry said.

The NPG suggested the project proponents plan for adequate transition infrastructure where inter-modal interface is involved, it added.
