Every month, as per the Hindu calendar, Lord Ganesha is worshipped with Lotus petals, commonly known as Peeta, during the auspicious occasion of Sankashti Chaturthi.
As the name suggests, Sankashti Chaturthi is observed during Krishna Paksha on the fourth day after the full moon or the waning phase of the moon. People observe a fast or vrat on this day.
Each month, Lord Ganesha is worshiped with a distinct name and there are a total of 13 vrat or fast days. Twelve of these fasts are observed in a regular year, while the thirteenth one belongs to the extra month that occurs once every four years. Each of these monthly fasts have a story and purpose behind its observance.
