July 11, 2024: German multinational company Siemens, in partnership with Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL), has secured an order from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) for the electrification of Bangalore Metro’s Blue Line under Phase 2A/2B. The total order value is approximately Rs 766 crore, with Siemens’ share amounting to around Rs 558 crore.
Siemens will be responsible for the design, engineering, installation, and commissioning of rail electrification technologies, as well as implementing a digital solution that includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This project encompasses 30 stations over a span of 58 kilometers, connecting Bangalore Airport terminal to Central Silk Board via KR Puram and including two depots. The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
This order marks Siemens’ presence in 11 out of the 20 cities in India that have a metro system. Siemens is a technology company specializing in industry, infrastructure, transport, and the generation and transmission of electrical power. The company is the flagship listed entity of Siemens AG in India.
