Stamp duty and property registration charges in Bihar

Here is all you need to know about stamp duty and registration charge on property purchase in Bihar.

Property registration for properties worth more than Rs 100 is mandatory under the Registration Act in India. Stamp duty is a state-imposed tax that is mandatory to be paid at the time of property registration. Since this is a state-determined fee, stamp duty differs from one state to another. In this guide, we discuss the stamp duty and registration fee in Bihar.

What is stamp duty?

Stamp duty is the official fee payable to the state government at the time of document registration in the sub-registrar’s office. States charge a certain percentage of the property value as stamp duty. They use the prevalent circle rate in the area to calculate the property value.

What is registration fee?

Registration fee is a separate charge that buyers have to pay besides the stamp duty. This is the convenience fee paid to the government for paperwork. The registration fee is invariably less than the stamp duty.
