Surat Airport: Terminals

Surat International Airport currently has only one operational terminal. The inauguration of the new terminal building at Surat Airport took place on February 27, 2009, with union minister of state for petroleum, Dinsha Patel, officiating the ceremony. The construction of the terminal, amounting to Rs 400 Mn, resulted in a facility with a total floor area of 8,500 sqm (91,000 square feet) and the capacity to accommodate 240 passengers per hour. The terminal is well-equipped with modern amenities, including two baggage carousels in arrivals hall, CCTV cameras and a hand baggage X-ray machine. Notable features also include two elevators, two air bridges with a Visual Docking Guidance System, two escalators and a 120-seat lounge. Additionally, Coffee Culture and various other shops have been introduced to enhance passenger services and convenience.

 

Surat Airport: Cargo terminal

Surat Airport’s cargo terminal was inaugurated on January 29, 2020. The AAI approved a plan for the modular cargo terminal, and after the tender’s approval, the construction work was assigned to a Surat-based company. The cargo complex covers 14,000 square feet, with a ground-level area of 10,800 square feet and a first-floor area of 3,200 square feet. The construction was completed within the project’s 13-month completion period. AAI has plans for additional cargo terminal development at Surat Airport and has reserved land for this purpose.

 

Surat Airport: Future expansion

The expansion work for Surat Airport’s terminal building commenced in March 2020 with a project budget of Rs 3.53 Bn. The completion of the project is anticipated soon. The enlarged terminal will boast a total area of 25,520 sqm. Post-expansion, the terminal will efficiently cater to 1,800 passengers (1,200 domestic and 600 international) during peak daily hours. The extended facility will be well-appointed with 26 immigration counters, 20 check-in counters, baggage conveyors, five aerobridges and parking spaces accommodating over 500 cars. Additionally, the planned infrastructure enhancements include apron extension for 10 bays catering to code c aircraft and the construction of a full-length parallel taxiway.
