March 1, 2024: The Telangana government, on February 26, 2024, revived the Land Regularisation Scheme 2020. The scheme, which was delayed due to various court cases, aims to regulate unauthorised constructions by enabling citizens to apply for land regularisation. The scheme is applicable only to layouts that are not under legal disputes and does not include endowment, waqf or government lands.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite the LRS process by scrutinising the applications and giving clearances for ownership of plots. The deadline for applications to pay full fee is March 31, 2024, according to reports.
Under the previous government, the LRS applications were accepted from August 31 to October 31, 2020, with a total of 25.44 lakh applications received from different areas. Each applicant paid either Rs 1,000 for small open plots or Rs 10,000 for larger layouts. However, the process was stalled for four years, leaving applicants waiting for regularisation.
The layouts will be regularised based on existing rules, which aim to benefit lower and middle-class families. Once approval is given under the LRS scheme, applicants will get ownership rights on their lands, making it easier to start construction activities, seek bank loans and buy or sell properties.
