Char Dham of Uttarakhand or Chota Char Dham (small four abodes) is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimages in India. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri together form the Char Dham. It is believed to wash away all sins and ensure freedom from the cycle of birth and death. Char Dham registration was made mandatory in 2014. It is a compulsory document for visiting Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri temples or Hemkund Sahib. All registered devotees are issued biometric cards that allow pilgrims to avail of special facilities.
