Track work begins for Agra Metro priority corridor

Work on the first corridor of Agra Metro, connecting Taj East Gate to Sikandara is in progress.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has started track work on the Agra Metro Priority corridor. Authorities working on the Agra Metro project are optimistic about the trial run to begin soon.

As per an official statement, a track without ballast is being made for the metro corridor while ballasted track will be used at the Agra metro depot area. A track without ballast needs less maintenance. Hence, it is more suitable for metro rail projects. There is one crossover section, where the metro train changes track, at Taj East Gate Station. Another crossover section on the priority corridor is at Ramlila Maidan near Jama Masjid.

The test track in the depot has been completed. It will be used for test trials of metro trains as and when they arrive. The track work will be conducted on the elevated route of the priority corridor from Taj East Gate to Fatehabad Road Metro Station. It will progress towards the underground section.

The work is underway on the first corridor of Agra Metro, connecting Taj East Gate to Sikandara. The Agra Metro Project will have two corridors with 27 stations and covering around 29.4 kms. The priority corridor will comprise six stations, out of which three will be elevated and three will be underground metro stations.
