How to reach Ujjain?

By air

Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport 

Ujjain Airport, approximately 50 km from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport in Indore, is the nearest. The only two options from the airport to reach Ujjain are hiring a taxi or taking buses. Indore is very well connected to most of the important cities in India, and domestic flights depart regularly.

By train

Ujjain Junction

Ujjain has a station called the Ujjain Junction connected to most parts of India. Alternatively, one can visit the official website of Indian Railways or any authorised site to check the train schedule and book tickets online. Such trains also connect Ujjain to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Jaipur.

By road

From Delhi

Delhi-Ujjain buses usually follow NH48 or a combination of this highway and parts of NH52. These highways run through Jaipur, Kota and Ratlam before reaching Ujjain.

From Bangalore

Since the distance between Bangalore and Ujjain is too high, travellers may first arrive in a big city such as Indore or Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. These cities are connected by National Highway 44 or other interconnecting highways.

From Mumbai

Buses from Mumbai to Ujjain are generally NH160 or a combination of both. These highways connect to cities such as Nashik and Indore before arriving in Ujjain.

Mahakaleshwar Temple

The god Shiva is the dedicatee of this temple. Also situated near the Rudra Sagar lake, this temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and, therefore, more important than all temples where Lord Shiva resides.

Kal Bhairav Temple
