What is the meaning of Tarmeem?
Tarmeem, spelt as तरमीम in Hindi and ترمیم in Urdu, is an Arabic term, which means repair, amendment, revision, modification, or improvement.
What is the meaning of Tarmeem in reference to land records in India?
When used in the context of land records, the term ‘Tarmeem’ stands for edits made in land records and map (bhunaksha) over the period as land is divided further among its legal heirs. In Hindi-speaking states, Tarmeem is also known as Batankan (बटांकन).
The need for Tarmeem arises whenever the ownership of land changes, or in case any corrections, or updates are made in the existing details.
Land mutation, for instance, can be cited as an example of Tarmeem, when the name of the old owner is replaced with the name of the new owner for the purpose of land revenue collection.
Once a property is divided among its legal heirs, the need for Tarmeem also arises. In this scenario, changes are made to the land map based on the latest division with new details of ownership.
How to get land Tarmeem done?
With most states in India digitizing their land records, land Tarmeem can be done online by following some simple steps and providing details and documents. Users also have the option to complete this task offline by visiting the village tehsil under which the land is governed.
