What is Aadhaar enrolment update certificate?

Certificate for aadhaar enrolment can be obtained online and offline

The Aadhaar registration process includes visiting a registration centre, completing a registration form, collecting demographic and biometric data, submitting identification and address documents, and collecting a confirmation slip containing a registration ID.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: Aadhaar registration highlights

  • Registration for Aadhaar is free.
  • With proof of identity and address, you can go to any licensed Aadhaar registration centre across India.
  • The UIDAI process accepts a variety of PoI (Proof of Identity) and PoA (Proof of Address) documents. In PoA, residents may add minor fields to the addresses listed in the proof of address document as long as these changes do not affect the base address listed in the PoA document. If the requested change is material and you change the base address specified in your proof of claim, you must provide another proof of claim.
  • Common forms of identification and proof of address are photo identification, ration cards, passports, and driver’s licences. A photo ID, such as a voter card, can be used to prove your identity. Proof of address documents includes water, electricity, and landline bills for the last three months.
  • Suppose you don’t have the above general credentials. In that case, a photo ID issued by the Gazetted Officer/Tehsildar Certificate Proforma, as required by UIDAI, will also be accepted as his PoI.
  • Even if someone in the family does not have valid personal papers, the resident can still register as long as their name is on the family rights document.
  • In this case, the head of the family must register with the eligibility documents using valid PoI and PoA documents. The head of the household can refer to other family members. UIDAI accepts many types of documents as proof of relationship. Please see the list of attached documents.

Residents may also seek the help of referrals at the registration centre if no documentation is available. The registrar will notify the referrer.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: Methods of registration

Without making it too complex to understand the registration process, we can make it simple by categorising it in three different ways. The three essential methods which are required in the registration process are given down below.

1) Document base

One is required to present a valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA).

2) Head of Family (HoF)- base

The Head of the Family (HoF) can refer the family to the documentation that justifies the Proof of Relationship (POR). The resident and Head of Family (HoF) must be present at registration. Residents must provide a valid Proof of Identity (POI) for re-registration and name renewal. HoF addresses can be communicated to family members through authentication.

3) Referrer base

If you do not have a valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and a valid Proof of Address (PoA), you can use the services of a middleman. The importer must be a person appointed by the registrar and have a valid Aadhaar number.

A photo, fingerprint, and iris scan will also be taken as part of the enrollment process. You can check and correct the information you entered during registration. You will receive a confirmation letter with your enrollment number and other data recorded at the time of enrollment. Corrections to registration data may be made within 96 hours of registration by visiting the registration centre with the confirmation letter.

Only one registration is required, as multiple registrations will be rejected unless recommended by UIDAI. Aadhaar latency varies from 60 to 90 days after receiving a resident data packet in CIDR.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: Where is the Aadhaar enrollment done?

Registration in all states/UTs is covered by UIDAI and the RGI. Registration activities for Aadhaar are being carried out exclusively by the Registrar General of India (RGI), along with the preparation of the National Population Register (NPR) of Assam and Meghalaya. Residents of all other states/UT must be registered at Aadhaar Enrollment Center/Aadhaar Camp or Permanent Enrollment Centre.

Indian residents, including NRI (with valid Indian passports), can register an Aadhaar. When the applicant completes their Aadhaar application, they also submit a signed declaration to that effect. Also, the NRI must visit their Aadhaar centre with proof of identity and address as per the list of acceptable documents.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: What is the registration process for children under the age of 5?

There is no age limit for Aadhaar registration. Even a newborn can enrol in Aadhaar. However, they do not collect biometric data from children under 5. The Aadhaar for children under the age of five is associated with either their parents or their legal guardian. These children must provide biometrics (photo, 10 fingerprints, 2 irises) once they reach the age of 5. This biometric data must be updated again when you turn 15.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: How does the process of enrollment work for people with disabilities, with no fingerprints or rough hands?

The policy addresses these exceptions and ensures that these groups are not exempt from the mandatory biometric criteria. For individuals without hands/fingers, only one photo of his/her is used to verify identity, with markings to ensure uniqueness.

Certificate for Aadhaar enrolment update: What is the need to update your Aadhaar data?

1) Demographic updates

Changes in life events such as marriage may cause residents to change basic demographics such as name and address. Moving to a new location may also change your address and mobile phone number. Residents may also wish to change their relative details due to changes in life events such as marriage or the death of a relative.

In addition, residents may have other personal reasons for changing mobile phone numbers, email addresses, etc.

As a resident can register from anywhere in India, if they shift, they can change the local language of registration to another language of their preference. In this case, one should update the demographic information printed on the Aadhaar letter with the new local language.

UIDAI also determines the availability and quality of POIs, POAs, and other documents collected at the time of registration/renewal, notifies residents, updates demographic information, and submits required documents.

2) Biometric renewal

Residents are encouraged to renew their biometrics every 10 years. Events such as accidents or illnesses lead to biometric exceptions. As the Aadhaar Authentication Service becomes ubiquitous, residents may experience authentication failures (known as false denials, valid Aadhaar numbers) due to incorrect biometric captures or poor quality biometrics at the time. Biometric updates may be used for valid residents of registration. As technology improves, it may be possible to obtain higher-quality biometric data in CIDR.

UIDAI can check the quality of biometric data collected during registration/renewal and set thresholds. Any resident whose biometric is below a set threshold may be notified by the UIDAI to update their biometric.
