80% of Delhi’s buses will be electric by 2025: CM Arvind Kejriwal

The e-buses are equipped with CCTVs, panic buttons and other modern tech systems.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that 80% of the city’s bus fleet will be electric by 2025 as he flagged off 50 electric buses on January 2, 2023. The acquisition of e-buses will go a long way in reducing pollution in the national capital, he added.

There are 300 e-buses, out of the total 7,379 buses plying in the city. With the induction of 300 electric buses, the first phase of induction of e-buses is complete. Under phase two, about 1,500 additional e-buses will be inducted by 2023. By 2025, Delhi will have 10,480 buses, of which 8,280 will be e-buses.

Recently, the Delhi government initiated the process of taking over the operations of 100 electric feeder buses of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). There are plans to operate 480 feeder buses in 2023. This means there are already 400 e-buses in Delhi, of which 100 buses are plying on Metro feeder routes. Mumbai has 406 e-buses, which is the highest number of e-buses in the country. Delhi is six buses behind Mumbai and will not be far behind, he said.  The buses are eco-friendly and equipped with CCTVs, panic buttons and other modern tech systems.
