Adi Shankaracharya’s Statue of Oneness: Visitor’s guide

The Adi Shankaracharya’s Statue of Oneness is made of copper, zinc and tin.

The 108-foot ‘Statue of Oneness’ of Hindu philosopher and saint Adi Shankaracharya is constructed on top of the Mandhata Hills that overlooks the Narmada River in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh.  Approved by the Madhya Pradesh state cabinet in 2022, the project was developed under the guidance of Acharya Shankar Sanskritik Ekta Nyas and the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC).

 

Adi Shankaracharya Statue: Inauguration date

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, chief minister, Madhya Pradesh unveiled the ‘Ekatmata Ki Pratima’ on September 21, 2023. Thursday. This project was approved by the Madhya Pradesh state cabinet in 2022.

 

Adi Shankaracharya Statue: Making of the Statue of Oneness

The 100-tonne statue of Adi Shankaracharya is made of copper, zinc and tin. It is placed on a lotus carved from a large rockface. The project has been executed by CP Kukreja Architects.

The Madhya Pradesh state government allotted around Rs 2,141 crore for this project that includes construction of the 108- ft statue and development of a museum, an international Vedanta institute and Advaita Forest in Omkareshwar.

Located on the banks of River Narmada, Omkareshwar is around 80 km from Indore. According to scripts, Adi Shankaracharya was born in Kerala and had come to Omkareshwar as a young monk. He stayed here for four years to receive education.
