The Joseph Mundassery scholarship helps economically disadvantaged students pursue higher education

If you are from an economically backward minority community, life isn’t easy. More so in recent times.

The Joseph Mundassery Scholarship aims to make it a little bit easier. 

Launched by the Minority Welfare department of the Kerala Government in 2021, this financial aid specifically benefits academically bright students who belong to minority communities in advancing their education. 

The scheme will facilitate students belonging to Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Parsi communities to advance their education.

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: Eligibility criteria

  1. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship is awarded to those students who are permanent residents of Kerala. 
  2. Students must be studying in government or government-aided institutions.
  3. Students belonging to the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category will have first preference. In their absence, APL (Above Poverty Line) minority students will be considered whose family income does not exceed Rs. 8,00,000 (Eight lakh rupees).
  4. The applicant must have a personal savings account in any nationalised bank.

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: Eligible courses and amount details

  1. Students in SSLC having A+ grades in all subjects will receive Rs. 10,000.
  2. Students in UG courses having a minimum of 80% will receive Rs. 15,000.
  3. Students in PG courses having a minimum of 75% will receive Rs. 15,000.

The starting date to apply for the scholarship will be 7th December 2022, and the due date will be 27th December 2022.

 

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: Requisite documents to apply

  • Online application printout for the scholarship.
  • Copy of SSLC mark lists.
  • Copy of the applicant’s bank passbook’s first page (Name, account number, Branch Code, Branch Address etc., should be present).
  • Copy of Aadhar card or NPR(National Population Register) card.
  • Copy of nativity certificate.
  • Copy of community certificate or minority certificate.
  • Income certificate from the respective village office.
  • Copy of ration card.
  • Copy of BPL certificate, if applicable.
  • Proof of Residence
  • Recent passport size photograph

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: Application process

  1. Go to the Department of Minority Welfare at www.minoritywelfare.kerala.gov.in and click on ‘Scholarships’ in the header menu.
  2. Select Prof. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award (PJMS).
  3. Click on ‘Apply Online’ in the dialogue box that opens up to the right.
  4. Click on the registration option and fill in your details in the registration form that appears.
  5. Once completed, you will receive a User Id and Password. Use these to access the candidate login page.
  6. Now you will see the application form for the scholarship. Fill in all the requisite details and upload all necessary documents.
  7. Once completed, submit your application, and take a printout of the same. You need this printout to be submitted along with all the other necessary documents.

 

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: Instructions for heads of respective institutions

  1. The head of the institution or an individual appointed by him is responsible for checking the application form of every applicant online.
  2. Ensure the applicant has obtained the eligibility-fulfilling marks.
  3. After verifying all forms and requisite documents, the head of the institution should do verification approval online.
  4. Income certificates should be provided and attached with all the documents.
  5. Ensure the authenticity of all submitted documents.
  6. Verify the applicants’ submitted bank details carefully.
  7. All applicants’ documents must be verified and submitted before the due date.

 

Joseph Mundassery Scholarship: How to check the selection list for the scholarship?

  1. Go to the Department of Minority Welfare at www.minoritywelfare.kerala.gov.in and click on ‘Scholarships’ in the header menu.
  2. Select Prof. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award (PJMS).
  3. At the bottom of the page, amongst the scholarship award, eligibility details will be the texts ‘SSLC Selection List’ and ‘HSC/VHSE Selection List’. Click on whichever is applicable.
  4. On the new page, select the relevant options from the dropdown boxes, including the name of your institution.
  5. The list of selected students will be shown in a table.

Can I apply from outside Kerala for the scholarship?

No, students from other states aren’t eligible for the same.

What if I already have a login ID and password for the minority welfare website? Do I have to create it again?

Those of you who already have created a login id before on the site for other purposes can use the same credentials to access the candidate log-in page.
