The Mumbai Police have told landlords in the city to immediately provide all details of their new tenants on its official portal. The move by the police is aimed at taming terrorist activist in India’s financial capital.
“Each landlord/owner/person dealing in property business of any house/property which falls under the jurisdiction of Mumbai Police Commissionerate who has let/sub-let/rented out any accommodation to any person, shall immediately furnish the particulars of the said tenant/tenants online on the citizen portal,” the Mumbai police said in an advisory.
The order comes into effect from November 6, 2022. Failure to adhere to this order will result in a property owner punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
How to provide tenant details?
In the tenant form page on the Mumbai Police portal, fill the property owner’s details, including police station, property owner’s photo, full name, mobile number, email id, address, city, state and pincode. Then click on Next to proceed to fill other details like rented property details, tenant details, tenant’s workplace details, etc.
If the accommodation is let/sub-let/rented out to a foreigner, the owner and the foreigner must furnish his name, nationality, passport details and the reason for his stay in the city.
