October 4, 2023: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s revenue committee has granted an extension to apply for tax benefit for unused properties. While previously, the date to apply for the benefit was between April 1 to 7, it has been now extended till May 31, a TOI report mentioned.
Who are eligible for applying for tax benefit for unused properties?
- Residential property owners who have a two-month electricity usage less than 30 units are eligible for this tax benefit.
- Commercial property owners who have a two-month electricity usage less than 50 units are eligible for this tax benefit.
As per the TOI report, Jainik Vakil, chairman of the revenue committee, said that the status of these applications would earlier reflect as ‘pending’ because the application period was at the beginning of a financial year.
Extension of the deadline will correct this and also reduce pending applications by about 25,000 every year. However, there is no extension for property owners with no electricity connection. They will still have to apply in the April 1-7 time period.
