January 8, 2024: To cater to the anticipated increase in road traffic to and from Delhi to the upcoming Noida International Airport, the Noida Authority plans to develop a new expressway to decongest the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. According to an Economic Times report, the Noida Authority, Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (REITS), the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and the irrigation department have conducted a study for a new expressway along the Yamuna River.
A nine-member committee, headed by additional CEO Sanjay Khatri and comprising officials from the NHAI, the irrigation department, and the REITS, was set up following a meeting in November last year. The committee conducted a survey on December 29, 2023, examining the cross-sectional and longitudinal details of the proposed expressway alongside the crucial factors governing its alignment.
According to the report, the NHAI will submit a report on the land requirements, elevated stretches, etc. The irrigation department will prepare a report on the existing road’s dimensions and land availability, while RITES will prepare the design and cost estimates.
Proposed expressway to ease travel to Noida International Airport
The proposed expressway will serve as a bypass for the existing Noida Expressway, aimed at accommodating the increase in population owing to the burgeoning corporate presence and the upcoming international airport scheduled to commence operations in October 2024. The preliminary road design is expected to be finalised by January 15, 2024, according to a TOI report.
Proposed expressway route
The proposed expressway will cover 32 kilometre and has been planned along the Yamuna Pushta Road, connecting Sector 94 near the Delhi border at Kalindi Kunj to Sector 150 near Greater Noida. It will have a connectivity link to the Yamuna Expressway.
Two rotaries are projected to be built at both ends of the proposed expressway for seamless access. The first, planned near Kalindi Kunj metro station, will facilitate commuters entering Delhi and Faridabad along the Yamuna Pushta Road. The second rotary, planned near Sector 150, will provide access to the Yamuna Expressway through the cloverleaf interchange.
Proposed expressway real estate impact
As cited in the media report, officials expect the new route to significantly boost connectivity to several residential sectors along the Yamuna River, including Sector 128, 135, 150, 151 and 168 and Greater Noida.
