  • The Patna Metro will have two corridors – East-West corridor and North-South Corridor.
  • The project cost of Patna Metro is expected to be around Rs 13,365 Cr and will be constructed based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
  • To be operational in phases, work is underway on Phase-1 of the Patna Metro.

  • This metro will help in decongesting the city. Additionally, it will also boost the local economy.

Gaya Metro

  • This is the second largest city in Bihar after Patna where a metro network will be developed.
  • Gaya Metro has been proposed to provide connectivity and boost the local economic growth.
  • While the metro has been suggested, there is no draft ready on what route it will operate. However, reports suggest that the metro line will pass near National Highway-82. The location is around 8 km from Gaya Junction and 2 km from Manpur. Reports suggest that metro stations will be constructed in Bezaul, Tetaria, and Salpur villages.
  • Once ready, the DPR will be made, and work will start on this project.
  • The metro network in Gaya will complement the Gaya International Airport and will result into the development of the city.

Muzaffarpur Metro

  • Through this metro network, there are plans to connect Ramdayalu Nagar and Mushahari. This will be done via Medical Fourlane to Sadadatpur via Kanti to Madwan and on the other side to Mushahari
  • All the paperwork, strategies, and plan for this metro is expected to take around one and a half years to complete.
  • With this metro, there will be some realignment in Muzaffarpur area to accommodate the metro.
  • The metro here will decongest the city, provide a cheaper and convenient alternative to travel and reduce pollution.

Bihar Metro Projects: Funding

  • The state and the centre each will be funding around 20% of the amount.
  • The balance 60% will be sourced from other sources including foreign institutions, such as Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank.

Bihar Metro: Time expected for project completion

Once the metro projects are announced, the next step is to create the feasibility report based on which the detailed project report (DPR) will be made. After the DPR is approved, the work on the metro will start. If while following the route, some land acquisition is done, then the time taken to complete and set the various metro projects in Bihar will be around 10 years.
