BMC presents Rs 59,954-cr Budget for FY 24-25; focus on ongoing infra

The proposed Budget is 10.5% more than that of FY 23-24, which was Rs 54,256.07 crore.

February 5, 2024: India’s richest municipal body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented the Budget for FY 24-25 on February 2, 2024.

Crossing the Rs 50,000-crore mark for the second time, the BMC budget estimate for FY 24-25 is Rs 59,954.75 crore. The proposed Budget is 10.5% more than that of FY 23-24, which was Rs 54,256.07 crore.

Infrastructure has been allotted a major share of the Budget 2024-25. Rs 2,800 crore has been allocated for the Marine Drive to Worli stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road project and Rs 1,130 crore has been allotted for the Versova-Dahisar stretch. The Dahisar to Bhayander route has been allotted Rs 220 crore as part of the Budget 2024-25. Around Rs 1,870 crore has been allotted for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

The BMC Budget was presented by the civic administration to municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, who was appointed as BMC administrator by Maharashtra after the five-year term of corporators ended March 2022.
