Navi Mumbai Metro awarded 3 ISO certifications in first year of operations
Cidco on December 16, 2024 announced that the Navi Mumbai Metro has been awarded three globally recognised ISO certifications for quality, environment and safety standards. Operated by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro), the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
As per the Cidco press release, Navi Mumbai Metro is the only metro line in Maharashtra to receive all three ISO certifications within its very first year of operations. The certifications were awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI) through Maha Metro.

Navi Mumbai Metro timings
The Navi Mumbai Metro will operate from 6 AM to 10 PM everyday with a frequency of 15 minutes.
The Navi Mumbai Metro timings was revised in January 2025, owing to the demand that the transport network has seen in the city. The first metro train starts from Belapur and Pendhar stations at 6 AM. Final metro service starts from Pendhar station at 9.45 AM.
In the Belapur side, from 7.30 AM to 10 AM the Navi Mumbai Metro Trains will ply every 10 minutes. It will again run every 1o minutes from 5.30 PM and 8 PM.
In the Pendhar side, from 7. AM to 9.30 AM the Navi Mumbai Metro Trains will ply every 10 minutes. It will again run every 1o minutes from 5 PM to 7.30 PM.

Navi Mumbai Metro project cost
The cost of Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 project is estimated around Rs 3,400 crore, of which Rs 2,600 crore are already infused by Cidco, Rs 500 crore are from bank line of credit and the remaining will be Cidco internal accruals.

Corridor-1 of the Navi Mumbai Metro will be developed in three phases. The foundation stone for the Navi Mumbai Metro rail project was laid on May 1, 2011. The Corridor-1 route includes Belapur, Kharghar, Pendhar, Kalamboli and Khandeshwar and is planned to be extended to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). This is based on a detailed project report (DPR) made by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1
Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 will cover a total of 23.4 km and will include 20 metro stations. Starting from Belapur, the Navi Mumbai Metro route of Line 1 will terminate at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 will be developed in four phases – Belapur to Pendhar is the first phase and is operational. It covers a distance of 11.1 km and includes 11 elevated stations with a terminus at Belapur and a depot-cum-workshop at Taloja Metro Station.

Navi Mumbai Metro ticket prices
Starting September 7, 2024, fares of Navi Mumbai Metro from Belapur to Pendhar will be cut by 33%. According to Vijay Singhal, managing director, Cidco this fare reduction is done to encourage more people in Navi Mumbai to use the metro services.

Navi Mumbai Metro Neo on Lines 2, 3 and 4
Cidco has decided to implement Metro Neo in Navi Mumbai Metro Lines 2, 3 and 4. Metro Neo is electric-trolley bus with rubber tyres that is powered by overhead traction system.
Metro Neo coaches are smaller and lighter than conventional Metro train. These are energy efficient and environment friendly, according to a tweet by Cidco.

Navi Mumbai Metro-Mumbai Metro Gold Line 8
- Line 8 of the Mumbai Metro also known as the Gold Line will connect the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
- This is the first mass rapid transit system connecting the two cities. The proposed route will be 35 km and will have 6 stops excluding the two airport stops.
- A detailed project report of the plan is awaited. The project will be developed by the MMRDA on the Mumbai side and the Cidco on the Navi Mumbai side.
- The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 15,000 crore. With this in place, travel time between the two airports which can be around 2.5 hours will be reduced to 30 minutes.
- The Gold Line Mumbai Metro 8 is expected to reduce the traffic congestion by providing direct access to both the airports. This will reduce traffic on the road that will have a positive impact on the air quality index (AQI) of the city.
- The Mumbai Metro 8 is expected to have a daily ridership of around 5 lakh people. This metro will have a sleek design and has high speed connectivity.
Navi Mumbai Metro: Newer route proposed
CIDCO has plans to extend its metro network with two new routes in the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) as part of its comprehensive mobility plan (CMP). These routes will help establish easy connectivity between the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and the Navi Mumbai.
Cidco in the 2024 Annual Budget granted around Rs 690 crore for metro expansion in this region that will include development the Ulwe coastal road to Ambivali in Raigad and the Kalamboli–Chikhale–Kon corridor. The planning body also allotted Rs 539.37 crore for NAINA region development. Cidco along with the Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) to prepare the detailed project report (DPR).
Navi Mumbai Metro connectivity
The Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 passes through entire Kharghar before halting at Pendhar. Owing to this it connects various locations inside Kharghar and also connects Kharghar to Pendhar which even till recently was connected only through the NMMT buses, autos and Eco share taxis, the latter two being expensive options.
With many educational hubs in Kharghar, the presence of Navi Mumbai Metro helps in easy and cheaper connectivity between them, something that students seek.
With the connectivity improved many notches, Kharghar residential market has already started witnessing a rise in the property value. Additionally, the place boasts of large land parcels which are being developed by reputed developers. Developers such as Gami Group, Arihant Superstrutures, Adhiraj Constructions etc. are having their presence here. Once all the Navi Mumbai Metro routes are open, it will help in decongestion of the Harbour and Central Line Railway Network. It will also play a role in reducing the traffic on road.
