Chamravottam Bridge – A complete guide

The concrete bridge spans a length of 978 metre and a width of 10.5 metre.

The Chamravattom Regulator-cum-Bridge is situated across Bharathapuzha river (Nila), close to Chamravattom, Triprangode, in Kerala’s Malappuram district. It is also called Chamravattom Palam, Chamravattom Bridge, Chamravattom RcB, or the Chamravattom Project.

The bridge was inaugurated by Kerala’s former chief minister, Oommen Chandy, on May 17, 2012. The Chamravattom Regulator-cum-Bridge project aims to serve two main purposes: improving irrigation in the region and reducing the travel distance between Kozhikode and Kochi by 38 km.

The idea for the project first emerged around 1977 or 1984, but it lay dormant for a while. On September 13, 2009, the project’s foundation stone was set by the then-chief minister, V S Achuthanandan.

The dimensions of the bridge are 978 metre in length and 10.5 metre in width. Ponnani and Tirur are linked by it. According to a technical study report by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, the Regulator Cum Bridge is currently only functioning as a bridge as a result of bad design.
