Name and launch
Named after India’s former president, Zakir Hussain, the garden was set up in 1967 under the guidance of MS Randhawa, Chandigarh’s first chief commissioner.
Flora and fauna
Spread across 1,21,406 square metres, the garden boasts 1,600 different rose species. It also offers 32,500 varieties of trees and medicinal plants.
Rose varieties
Rose varieties in this garden are named after eminent personalities, such as Lal Bahadur Shastri, Queen Elizabeth and John F Kennedy.
Medicinal garden
Arguably the largest rose garden in Asia, Chandigarh’s Rose Garden flaunts medicinal plants, such as bel, bahera, harar, camphor and yellow gulmohar.
Visiting hours
Located at Sector 16B, Jan Marg, Chandigarh, the garden is open on all days from 5 AM to 9 PM.
Entry fee
You have to pay Rs 50 to visit the garden.
Festival of gardens
The rose garden hosts the annual festival of gardens in the last week of February.
