Chilla Elevated Road project gets UP Cabinet nod

June 9, 2023: The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Cabinet on June 6, 2023, gave an approval to the Chilla Elevated Road. The state Cabinet has decided a revised budget of Rs 788 crore for the 5.96-km road.   While almost half of the project cost will be provided by the Noida Authority, the remaining fund will be provided by the Centre under its Gati Shakti Mission.

On June 7, the Noida Authority said work on the project was likely to resume by July 2023. Work on the project was halted by the Noida Authority in March 2020 due to financial issues.

“We will resume construction in another month after completing all formalities. This resolution of a major hurdle will provide seamless commuting for thousands of commuters,” Noida Authority chief executive officer Ritu Maheshwari told Hindustan Times. The project is likely to be completed in three years from the start of construction, say officials.

Once completed, the road project would provide uninterrupted connectivity from east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar to the Mahamaya Flyover on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and help commuters avoid traffic merging on sectors 14, 14A, 15, 15A, 16 and 18 in Noida.  The six-lane road is likely to greatly benefit office goers living in Mayur Vihar, Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar, Noida and Greater Noida.

While the idea for this road project was conceived in 2013, the Noida Authority and the UP Public Works Department agreed to a 50:50 funding model for the project in 2018. The foundation stone for the road project was laid by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath in 2019, after which work on the project started on January 25 that year.

After the Cabinet approval, construction agency Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (UPSBCL) will float fresh tenders for the road project. UPSBCL will provide technical assistance for the project while the Noida Authority will be responsible for overseeing the work and releasing of funds.
