November 30, 2023: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has identified a 50-acre land parcel in Narela for the development of a cricket stadium, five-star hotel and super-speciality health facility, according to media reports. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who is the chairman of the DDA, has given approval for DDA to float a request for proposal to identify a consultant to help establish the stadium and has directed the officials to complete the groundwork within two years.
The land is situated near the Urban Extension Road Project (UER-II). Saxena has directed DDA to further identify land parcels in the vicinity to develop sporting facilities for football, hockey and other Olympic sports to strengthen Delhi’s claims for hosting the Olympics 2036, as stated in media reports.
The Narela sub-city is being developed over an area of 9,866 hectare. Recently, the Delhi LG directed DDA to develop Narela into an education hub. The project, where land parcels will be allotted to universities and other academic institutions to set up campuses, will be spread over 3,828 hectare.
Reports cited officials stating that several health institutions have already started functioning in the Narela area and plots for a prison complex, court complex and freight complex have been allotted by DDA to the agencies concerned.
Narela is a locality in north Delhi, situated near the border between Delhi and Haryana. It is one of the prominent real estate destinations in Delhi and has many upcoming residential and commercial projects. The DDA recently launched a housing scheme offering over 28,000 flats at Narela across various categories through FCFS mode.
