In a move that will ease the allotment of properties under the EWS category, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to ensure faster conversion of leasehold properties to freehold within two months.
Recently, the DDA held a meeting, chaired by LG VK Saxena, where decisions were made to ease the process of owning a home for the economically weaker sections (EWS), to bring transparency in land allotment for religious purposes and to promote green fuel in Delhi. The decision on the faster completion of the long-pending conversion of properties from leasehold to freehold, was taken when discussing the action taken report (ATR) during the last Authority meeting.
Moreover, the plinth area rates (PAR) used for calculating the construction cost of houses for the financial year 2022-23 have been approved. The PAR for flats offered for the first time under DDA Housing Scheme 2019 and 2021 remains unchanged, while the PAR for old inventory flats has been increased by 5%. The increase in rates was last made in 2018.
New rules for applicants of EWS flats
The DDA has decided to make the allotment of homes more simple and accessible for those belonging to the EWS category. To enable this process, the Authority has decided to do away with the requirement of individual annual income of less than Rs 3 lakh, for applicants or allottees of DDA flats in the EWS category.

New rules for allotment of religious plots
The Authority has approved the disposal of plots under the religious category from allotment to auction mode. This will make the process of distributing plots under the religious category transparent and efficient.
DDA approves new norms to curb air pollution
The DDA also announced measures to tackle air pollution and encourage the use of green fuel in the city. It has given the nod to establish electric vehicle charging stations, on DDA sites already allotted for petrol/diesel pump and CNG stations. Furthermore, the authority has decided to charge a lesser license fee for these fuel sites or stations.
