December 26, 2023: Revenue Minister Atishi, on December 21, 2023, announced the ‘Anywhere Registration’ policy under which properties in Delhi can be registered at any sub-registrar’s office. The move is aimed at benefiting people by avoiding long queues for property registration while promoting transparency to help curb corruption, the ministry said, as stated in media reports.
The new policy has been approved by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and the file has been sent to Lieutenant Governor for notification. According to the policy, people who want to register their properties can visit any sub- registrar’s office in Delhi. They will not be restricted to a specific sub-registrar’s office for property registration. Many complaints about the sub-registrar’s office often reach the chief minister, as mentioned in an official statement.
The statement said that there is one complaint regarding long queues in many sub-registrar’s offices. Another complaint that is often received is regarding the prevalent corruption in many such offices.
All sub-registrars in Delhi will now function as joint sub-registrars and their jurisdiction will cover the entirety of Delhi. Anyone residing in Delhi can make an online appointment for property registration at any of Delhi’s 22 sub-registrar offices.
