Delhi Metro launches QR-code-based tickets through Paytm on all lines

Earlier, this facility was available only on the Airport Express Line, DMRC said in its statement.

October 13, 2023: To ensure the ease of booking tickets for commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced the QR code-based ticketing facility through the Paytm Mobile App across all its corridors, according to an official release on October 12, 2023. The facility was inaugurated by Vikas Kumar, managing director of DMRC, in the presence of Abhay Sharma, chief business officer at Paytm, at the Metro Bhawan.

With the new feature, the metro commuters will be able to book mobile QR tickets on the Paytm app under the ‘Metro’ section. They will be required to input the station of entry and destination station on the day of the journey. Passengers can just hold their smartphone in front of the QR code scanner of the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at both entry and exit stations to proceed with the journey. Earlier, this facility was available only on the Airport Express Line, the statement read.

Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC, said that this QR-based ticketing facility for all corridors of the Delhi Metro through Paytm will facilitate efficient and hassle-free movement for lakhs of metro commuters in the national capital. Abhay Sharma, chief business officer, Paytm said that by using this facility, the Delhi Metro Rail passengers will be able to skip the queues to buy tickets.

The Delhi Metro has enabled the purchase of tickets through various digital modes, including UPI, Credit/Debit cards, net banking, etc. It has introduced several facilities based on digital payment methods, such as QR ticketing via the Mobile App, Ticket Vending Machines, Ticket Windows, WhatsApp, etc.

The DMRC, on October 8, 2023, announced the expansion of its WhatsApp-based ticketing system to all lines in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). This will also cover the Gurgaon Rapid Metro in collaboration with Meta and their authorised partner, Pelocal Fintech.
