July 12, 2023: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed that the Red Line from Rithala to Narela, be extended up to Kundli in Haryana. Currently operational between Shaheed Sthal (Ghaziabad) and Rithala, the Red Line will become Delhi Metro’s first corridor to directly connect Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The 5-km stretch from Narela to Kundli is currently undergoing topographical surveys, traffic surveys and an environment impact assessment. The detailed project report (DPR) for the extension plan will be submitted to Centre and the governments of Delhi and Haryana for approval by the end of this month. If the DMRC’s proposal is approved, the Red Line will become Delhi Metro’s fourth expansion into Haryana after Yellow Line (Gurgaon), Violet Line (Faridabad) and Green Line (Bahadurgarh).
