December 5, 2023: Post the opening of the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 on November 17, 2023 from Belapur to Pendhar, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) will now focus on commissioning Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2, Line 3 and Line 4.
These three lines of the Navi Mumbai Metro are elevated and will be an extension of Line 1.
- Line 2 spans 7.12 km and is planned from Khandeshwar to MIDC Taloja.
- Line 3 spans Pendhar to MIDC Taloja and is around 3.87 km
- Line 4 is from Khandeshwar to Navi Mumbai International Airport and is a 4.17 km stretch.
The detailed planned report of Line 2, 3 and 4 are expected to come in two months, mentioned media reports. The previous DPR was prepared in 2011. In addition to these three lines, Cidco is also looking at extending the Mumbai Metro Line 8 to connect the Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
For the implementation of the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, Cidco took a credit of Rs 500 crore from a private bank. The total cost estimated for the construction of all the four lines is around Rs 11, 000 crore of which media reports suggest that Rs 3,063 crore was the expenditure for the project construction of the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1.
