Entry and exit points of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway route

For commuters, there are seven exit points on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. All these exit points are named after villages such as Baghpat, Duhai, Dasna, Dadri, and Atali-Chasna, leading towards Meerut, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Noida, Greater Noida, and Faridabad.

Eastern Peripheral Expressway’s connectivity with other National Highways

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway is a peripheral road around Delhi. Thus, traffic that is not destined for Delhi does not pass through the city. Owing to this, there is no congestion and pollution in the city. The development of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway has helped in uplifting the socio-economic condition of these regions. The expressway has also increased employment potential for local laborers for project activities.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway connects with NH1 at Kundli and with NH2 at Palwal. It crosses the Yamuna river and three national highways namely NH58 at Murad Nagar, NH24 at Dasna and NH91 at Bheelakbarpur

Facilities available at the Eastern Peripheral Expressway

  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has seven exits for easy movement.
  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has around 406 structures, including four major bridges, 46 minor bridges, three flyovers, seven interchanges, 221 underpasses, and eight railway over-bridges (ROBs).
  • This is one of the first expressways to have a closed tolling system, where the toll is collected only on the distance traveled and not on the entire length.
  • To curb speeding of vehicles, the expressway has an auto challan system. Cameras have been set up at different locations to capture the speed of vehicles.
  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway also has a cycle track of 2.5 m width on both sides.
  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway is also installed with solar panels to provide power to lights along the road. It is also India’s first smart and green highway.
  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has amenities such as restaurants, motels, restrooms, shops, fuel refill stations, etc. Also, along the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, there are installed replicas of Indian monuments, including the India Gate, Qutub Minar, Char Minar, Hawa Mahal, etc.

Speed Limit to be followed on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway

As compared to other expressways, the Eastern Peripheral Expressway has a higher speed limit of 120 km/h. Consultations are ongoing to increase the average speed on multi-lane expressway corridors.

Is the Eastern Peripheral Expressway suitable for 120km/h?

While the maximum speed limit in this highway is 120 km/h, there are many people who travel on this, unsure of whether it really is capable of handling this speed. Some problems with respect to speed on the EPE are:

  1. Trucks hogging all the lanes and not moving beyond 70 km/ hr because of the load that they are carrying. This slows down the others on the road too and for a distance that can be covered in 20 min with 120 km/hr speed, it will take close to 40-60 minutes.
  2. Roads are bumpy at places and there are patches at places. It is recommended to drive safely on the EPE and wear front and rear seatbelts at all times during the drive.
  3. Wrong-side driving is very common on the EPE.  To avoid long legitimate turns, people often resort to driving on the wrong side for shorter distances. This can lead to accidents. While on the EPE, look out for vehicles on the wrong side and report it to the nearest police booth.

Eastern Peripheral Expressway: Security Measures provided

There are CCTV cameras installed every two km on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway for the safety of commuters. The Eastern Peripheral Expressway also has patrolling vans that are positioned every 25 km to ensure that crime in the city and vicinity is prevented. Additionally, the expressway also has warning and tracking devices that manage and prevent incidents.

EPE link with Yamuna Expressway: Construction to begin soon

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has been connected with the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and will soon be linked with the Yamuna Expressway via a planned interchange to be built near Jaganpur Afzalpur village.

After years of delay, the NHAI will begin construction of the interchange that will connect the Eastern Peripheral Expressway with the Yamuna Expressway. This project was  delayed because of a land acquisition dispute. According to media reports, the UP Cabinet approved the project on April 8, 2025. This project is estimated to be around Rs 270 crore and will be built near the Jaganpur-Afzalpur village which is around 10 km from the Yamuna Expressway. The construction of the expressway is expected to be completed in one year and the design will include four loops between the two expressways that span for 11 km. There will be four ramps connecting the expressways and adjoining roads. The NHAI will be bearing the construction cost and then collecting the toll tax to recover the cost.

This interlink, which will help in easy travel as commuters traveling between Agra and Ghaziabad, Hapur or Meerut have to take a detour through areas that are extremely crowded in Greater Noida like Kasna or Pari Chowk. This interchange will also help people travel from Mathura and Agra reach the Eastern Peripheral Expressway without a 20km detour.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway will join the Taj Expressway near Noida, which is expected to impact property prices in Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, with the joining of these two expressways, travel to the Noida International Airport, which is expected to open by April 2025, will be faster.

Real Estate impact because of Eastern Peripheral Expressway

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway, along with the Western Peripheral Expressway, forms the largest ring road around Delhi. Its excellent connectivity and location on the outskirts of the city have made larger properties at affordable rates possible in these areas. The expressway has proven to be a game-changer, particularly for Tier-III cities along its route, such as Kundli, Baghpat and Palwal. These areas are seeing a surge in demand for affordable housing, leading to a noticeable increase in property prices. Reports indicate that many investors, particularly from Delhi, are capitalizing on this emerging property market. Furthermore, the Eastern Peripheral Expressway will seamlessly connect Faridabad, the industrial hub, with Ghaziabad, the residential hub, enhancing connectivity between these key regions.

Average price for buying Price range per sqft Average rent Average price
Dasna Rs 4,797 per sqft Rs 3,181 – Rs 12,037 Rs 10,000
Baghpat Rs 2,465 per sqft Rs 2,500 – Rs 2,531 Rs 15,000
