It allows an unorganised worker to register for 400 occupations in 30 sectors.

December 12, 2023: Over 29.20 crore unorganised workers have been registered on the government’s eShram portal as on December 4, 2023, the ministry of labour and employment said on December 11.

“The ministry launched eShram portal on August 26, 2021, for registration of unorganised workers. It allows an unorganised worker to register on the portal on self-declaration basis, under 400 occupations in 30 broad occupation sectors. The main objective of the eShram portal is to create a national database of unorganised workers and to facilitate delivery of social security and welfare schemes to such workers,” Union minister of state for labour and employment Rameshwar Teli told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The registration in the portal is fully Aadhaar seeded, and any unorganised worker can register on the portal on a self-declaration basis, the minister added.

Features of eShram portal; benefits offered to workers

The eShram can capture the family details of migrant workers.

There is also a provision in eShram to share construction workers’ data with states to facilitate their registration in respective building and other construction workers boards.

eShram has been integrated with the National Career Service (NCS) Portal. An unorganised worker can register on NCS using their Universal Account Number (UAN) and search for suitable job opportunities. An option/link has also been provided to registrant on the eShram portal to seamlessly register on NCS.

eShram is also integrated with the Pradhan Mantri Shram-yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM). The PM-SYM is a pension scheme for unorganised workers who are aged between 18-40 years. Using UAN (eShram) number, any unorganised worker can easily register on Maandhan portal.

To provide skill enhancement and apprenticeship opportunities to unorganised worker, eShram has been integrated with the Skill India Digital portal of the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship.

eShram is also integrated with My Scheme portal. My Scheme is a National Platform that aims to offer one-stop search and discovery of the Government schemes. It provides an innovative, technology-based solution to discover scheme information based upon the eligibility of the citizen. The platform helps the citizens to find the right Government schemes for them. It also guides on how to apply for different government schemes. Through this integration, all the eShram registrants can check the schemes for which they are eligible.
