February 27, 2024: The government has decided to spend Rs 481.86 crore for widening the existing Next Generation Chhapra Bypass section of the National Highway-19 in Saran district of Bihar, with 3 additional lanes.
According to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, the development of this section would ensure smooth and safe traffic flow and significantly reduce travel time.
“Additionally, the implementation of the project will provide seamless connectivity to the Purvanchal Expressway from Hajipur (Patna)- Rivilganj- Ballia-Ghazipur and will boost the overall economic development of the region,” the minister said.
One of the busiest highways in India, the National Highway-19 runs through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, connecting Agra in UP to Kolkata in West Bengal. The Purvanchal expressway ends near village Hydaria on the National Highway 19, before 18 km of UP-Bihar border in district Ghazipur.
