• The soil must be rich, well-drained and mildly acidic, with pH value ranging between 6.0 and 7.0 for garden roses to grow and bloom. For the uninitiated, pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity in soil. Most soils have pH values between 3.5 and 10. Correct its pH value with compost when required.
