December 11, 2023: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is planning to build a 300-metre foot overbridge connecting the Shaheed Sthal Metro Station on the Delhi Metro’s Red Line and the Ghaziabad Station of the RRTS corridor, officials said as cited in media reports.
The project is expected to take around three months to complete, officials said. The Delhi Metro’s Shaheed Sthal Station and the Ghaziabad RRTS Station have been constructed along a congested intersection in Ghaziabad. Currently, commuters are required to cross the street to switch from the metro to the RRTS or vice versa. The new foot overbridge will enable passengers to easily switch between the two facilities.
The Delhi Metro Red Line is a 34.55-km line connecting Rithala to Shaheed Sthal, providing enhanced connectivity to Central Delhi, East Delhi and Ghaziabad.
In another development, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) recently approached the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to update the detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed Metro route from Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad.
Meanwhile, the trial run of the Namp Bharat train on the RRTS section from Duhai to Modi Nagar South was successfully conducted on December 10, 2023. The 25-km stretch from Duhai Station to Meerut South Station is expected to be opened to the public after the successful opening of the 17-km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Namo Bharat train on October 20, 2023, flagging off its operation on the priority section.
