December 7, 2023: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a 72-kilometre Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor between Ghaziabad’s 17-km priority section and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, officials said, as cited in media reports. The state government has approved the RRTS route and asked the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the project in the next two months.

The 72-km section of the RRTS will branch out from Ghaziabad station on the priority section and terminate at the Noida Airport in Jewar. The section will cover areas such as Greater Noida West, Surajpur and Ecotech Pari Chowk.
The upcoming RRTS route will boost connectivity in areas it will cover, which include Delhi and NCR towns of Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
Ghaziabad to Noida International Airport RRTS: Project cost
According to media reports, officials said that the state government will contribute 50% of the project’s funds, with an additional 20% allocated by the Centre. The remaining 30% will be shared by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) and the Greater Noida Authority.
As per reports, UP chief secretary DS Mishra chaired a meeting that approved the Rs 1,600-crore project. The meeting was attended by UP civil aviation department officials, officials of the Greater Noida Authority, Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, among others.
In October 2023, the UP government and Yeida had asked the NCRTC to explore an RRTS route from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan via the DND Flyway, Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway to the greenfield airport and another route through Greater Noida West and Greater Noida city’s central part to the Jewar airport.
However, during the meeting, Mishra directed the NCRTC to focus on the Ghaziabad to Jewar Airport route through Greater Noida West. The Sarai Kale Khan to Greater Noida West route has been dismissed, an official said as cited in reports.
The new RRTS route from Ghaziabad to Jewar Airport is expected to be operational by 2030. The 17-km of the 82.15-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor was inaugurated by Prime minister Narendra Modi, on October 20, 2023.
