August 2, 2024: The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has started working on plans to finalise the alignment of the Gurgaon Metro’s Palam Vihar to Dwarka extension project, senior officials said as cited in a Hindustan Times report. The metro project, which saw a significant delay, will connect Palam Vihar in Gurgaon to Dwarka’s Sector 21 and will include an interchange with the Gurgaon Metro corridor at the Palam Vihar station, an interchange at the IECC station of the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express line and another interchange at the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station.
The alignment and location of the final station is yet to be decided. It will be located near the Bijwasan Railway Station or the interstate bus terminal in Dwarka. The project, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 1,687 crore, will be forwarded to the Central government for approval, the official said as mentioned in the report. The metro project received approval from the Haryana government in October 2022.
The metro extension planned by the authorities will be 8.4 km in length, covering 5 km in Gurgaon and 3.4 km in Delhi. It will comprise seven elevated metro stations located at Chauma Village Sector 110-A, Sector 111, Sector 28 in Dwarka, IECC and Dwarka Sector 21. The new phase will integrate with the Gurgaon Metro extension at Palam Vihar, which will provide easy connectivity between Gurgaon and Delhi.
The Gurgaon Metro is a 28.5-km proposed metro project comprising 27 elevated metro stations, connecting Millenium City Centre with Cyber City. The project will be developed at an estimated Rs 5,452 crore.
