Few things are more frustrating than a flush tank leakage. One will almost certainly encounter a cracked or broken toilet tank at some point in their lifetime. Leaky toilets are inconvenient and if the leak is not repaired, a minor problem can turn into a major disaster. That is why it is critical to understand how to repair a leaky toilet tank.

This article provides simple directions on how to repair a leaking toilet tank.
Fixing flush tank leakage: Steps to be followed
Step 1
To begin, ensure that the water in the toilet tank is entirely turned off. Turn off the water supply to the toilet via the shutoff valve located below the tank, where the supply line joins to the wall.

Step 2
Next, drain the tank so that no water remains in it. After removing the tank cover, use a sponge to soak up any excess water in the tank’s bottom that did not drain completely.
Step 3
The tank bolts should then be unscrewed. Hold one of the tank bolt nuts with an adjustable wrench and loosen the other bolt found within the tank with the suitable driver. Repeat the process until both bolts have been removed from the tank.
Step 4
Now, carefully remove the tank from the toilet and place it upside down on the floor. If it is in a restroom with a tile/stone floor, use a towel or other soft surface. If the tank is too heavy or you are concerned about damaging it, enlist the help of an individual.
Step 5
The old spud gasket will then be removed and replaced. If you are having trouble removing the old spud gasket from the tank, use an adjustable wrench or, even better, a flat-head screwdriver to loosen it and then pull it off. Take care not to apply too much pressure to any ceramic surfaces.
Step 6
Next, you will want to replace any old bolt gaskets or rusted bolts with new ones. Scrape off the residue from old bolts or gaskets that may be holding onto the tank with a wire brush. Once you have a clean surface, replace the gasket and bolts before reinstalling the tank.

Step 7
Reposition and secure the tank using the hardware that was removed from it earlier or the new hardware that was purchased to replace it. With a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench, tighten the bolts and nuts. Open the supply valve, fill the tank, and then flush the toilet to test it.
Make sure to tighten the bolts gradually, alternating between the left and right bolts. This ensures a proper leak-free seal while maintaining a level tank and decreases the possibility of the tank separating.

Adjust the fill valve to control the water level or replace the fill valve assembly if it is faulty.
