What is a character certificate?

As the name suggests, a character certificate refers to documentation that validates a person’s character. This certificate determines that a person’s character is clean and ethical regarding the requirements of jobs or in general.

How to apply for a character certificate online in Bihar?

1. The first step that an applicant must follow is to visit the official site of Service Plus Bihar.
2. The applicant is then required to click on the “home services” or “services from home” link in the options available on the left side of the screen.
3. The applicant can then click on the “apply for a character certificate” option.
4. Applicants can register their name here and generate a registration and login ID if they want. After registration, the applicant is required to use their new login ID and password to enter the next process.
5. The website will then direct the applicant to a form of personal details such as their age, gender, name of parents, etc., that they must fill up to move to the next step.
6. After filling up the form, the applicant must click on the “I agree” check box at the end of the screen. This is referred to as the self-declaration that the details provided are true to the applicant’s knowledge and existence.
7. The applicant will receive a verification code on their registered mobile number, which they must submit on the website.
8. After successfully filling up the form and submission, the applicant will be given an enrollment ID or number that they must keep carefully.

Once the applicant presses submit on the link, this application is received by the SP’s office and then transferred to the police department. After the police verify the documents, the application for a character certificate is finally accepted and put into making. 

What to do after submission of the application, and how to check the application status?

• The application takes a minimum of 14 days to be processed after it is sent to the office of the SP.
• After proper and successful verification by the department of police into your records, your character certificate is then put into documentation.
• After completing all steps of the application and verification, the applicant is given an RTPS reference ID and an RTPS receipt. This RTPS reference ID is used when the applicant wants to check the status of the application on the site.
• To know the status of their application, the applicant must visit the Service Plus Bihar site once again. Here, they can enter their registered login ID to check the application status of the character certificate quickly.
