On November 19, 1997, Western Electricity Supply Company of Odisha (WESCO) was founded as a public limited company by Odisha to carry out the business of electricity distribution and retail supply in Western Odisha.
After the electricity sector reform process resulted in the privatisation of the distribution industry, WESCO was acquired by TATA Power Ltd. as a subsidiary, and TATA Power Ltd. acquired the controlling shareholding of 51%. Now, WESCO conducts its business under Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPWODL).

- For household TPWODL connection, select LT Single Phase connection.

TPWODL: Documents needed for a new electricity connection

- Application for TPWODL initial supply or subsequent extra supply of electricity should be submitted in duplicate in the format specified in Forms No. 1 & 2, as applicable, properly signed by the applicant.
- New connection application forms for TPWODL must be accompanied by a picture and evidence of identification of the applicant (Aadhar card, ration card, voter ID card, PAN card, driving licence, ration card along with any document showing photo identity)
- Application for the new TPWODL connection must include proof of applicant’s ownership or legal occupancy (Copy of sale deed or lease deed or Record of Right; Registered valid General Power of Attorney; Municipal tax receipt or Demand notice or any other related document establishing ownership/occupation of premises, Letter of allotment from Developmental Authority, Letter of Incorporation or Authority, and any other relevant document) over the premises for which new connection is being sought.
- A No Objection Certificate from the owner of the premises must also be provided by an applicant who is not the owner of the property but is only an occupant.
- Suppose the applicant is a corporation, trust, educational institution, government agency, etc. In that case, the application form must be signed by a competent authority (e.g., Branch Manager, Principal, Executive Engineer, etc.) and accompanied by a relevant resolution/ authorization letter from the institution.
- To ensure that the licensee/supplier is protected in the event of any disagreement over the supply of electricity to the premises, an applicant who is not the owner of the premises must sign an indemnity bond.
- An affidavit stating that the applicant has no outstanding debts to the current distribution licensee/supplier or any other distribution licensee/supplier in the state of Odisha, as mentioned in Forms 1 and 2, must accompany any application for a new service connection.
- Treasury challans of Rs 30/- for Dom applicants and Rs 75/- for GPS or P.I. candidates.
Steps to get power supply
- The applicant must visit the CSC with all pertinent papers and register their application.
- The application will be submitted to the Section office to verify your premises.
- The section office personnel will cooperate with the applicant to conduct a joint verification.
- If the application falls under the without estimation procedure, it will be sent to the SDO office for an arrears check and then to the CSC for payment of any required fees (SC, SD, and other charges if required).
- If it is subject to estimate, the application will be processed for payment of extra estimation fees following the supply code.
- The applicant must next pay the required fees at CSC, following which the entire set of documents will be sent to the section office to activate the power supply at your location. And correspondingly, a bill will be created.
Steps before turning on the power supply
Applicants are required to take care of the following items before submitting their applications for power supplies:
- Create a suitable and secure location for the meter to be installed (an outhouse may need to be constructed if the site is isolated).
- Earthing and wiring must be accomplished correctly.
- The installation of the cutouts and the point of supply has to be finished.
- All past-due obligations must be paid in full (in case of subsequent connections).
