The Blue Line Hyderabad Metro has 23 stations.

Hyderabad Metro Blue Line is a 27-km metro line that is part of the Hyderabad Metro system in Telangana. It has been developed by a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Telangana state and the construction company, Larsen & Toubro (L&T). There are 23 stations on the Hyderabad Metro Blue Line. It was inaugurated by PM Modi in November 2017.

Hyderabad Metro Blue Line: Opening date

Hyderabad Metro Blue Line opened for the public in phases.

  • Hyderabad Metro Blue Line Phase 1: This 8-km stretch from Nagole to Ameerpet included 14 stations. It was inaugurated by PM Modi on November 28, 2017. The metro was open to the public a day after the inauguration.
  • Hyderabad Metro Blue Line Phase 2: The remaining stretch of 10 km from Ameerpet to HITEC City included eight stations and was inaugurated on March 20, 2019.
  • Peddamma Gudi, Madhapur and Jubilee Hills Check Post were opened on March 30, April 13 and May 18, respectively, in 2019. The last section, spanning 1.5 km and connecting HITEC City to Raidurg, opened on November 29, 2019.

As per media reports, a 5-km Hyderabad Metro Blue Line extension is proposed to connect Nagole to LB Nagar and 800 metres for the multi-level Raidurg Station. The 31-km Hyderabad Airport Metro Express will start from here and the estimated cost is around Rs 6,250 crore.

L&T considers exiting Hyderabad Metro after 2026

Owing to the free bus ride scheme for women, ridership on the Hyderabad Metro has impacted and thus L&T with 90% ownership of Hyderabad Metro is planning to exit the project after 2026.  With this move, there has been a gender distribution that has been noticed with women using bus while men use the metro. According to reports, metro ride has fallen from 5.5 lakh in November 2023 to 4.6 lakh now. The free bus ride for women scheme was introduced in December 2023.
