A nationalised identification card is known as a Permanent Account Number or PAN card. You won’t be allowed to conduct any financial transactions without a PAN. A tax-paying individual, business, or HUF is given this 10-digit alphanumeric and distinctive account number by the Indian Income Tax Department. It is valid for all time. ​What is PAN?

The status of the PAN holder is shown by the fourth character of the PAN. The letter “F” represents a partnership firm (e.g. ALWFG5809L).

What are the charges for obtaining a PAN card?

PAN applications cost Rs. 110 (application fee of Rs. 93 plus 18% GST) for addresses in India and Rs. 1020 (including GST) for addresses outside of India/ foreign addresses.

How to apply for a PAN card?

You can apply for a PAN online. Additionally, requests for updates or corrections to PAN data can be submitted online. On the NSDL website or the UTIITSL website, a PAN application can be submitted online. Both have been granted permission by the Indian government to issue PANs or to alter or correct PANs on behalf of the Income Tax Department. The PAN application process is easiest to complete online. The applicant merely needs to complete and submit the online application form together with the appropriate processing fee paid online. After that, copies of the necessary documents can be mailed to NSDL or UTIITSL for verification.

Steps to follow for Income tax PAN card application online

Step 1: Submit Form 49A, which is available on the NSDL website, to request a PAN card.

 

Step 2: Fill out the form completely. Before filling out the form, carefully read the instructions.

 

Step 3: Mode of Payment: Obtaining a PAN costs Rs. 110 (Application fee Rs. 93 + 18% GST) for an Indian communication address and Rs. 1020 (including GST) for a foreign communication address. Demand draughts, credit/debit cards, and online banking are all acceptable methods of payment for the application fee. An acknowledgement will be shown after successful payment. Keep this acknowledgement number handy.

 

Step 4: Documents to be sent to NSDL: Once the application and payment have been approved, the applicant must deliver the supporting documents to NSDL through courier or postal service. PAN applications would only be processed by NSDL after receiving the required paperwork. Documents comprise one each of a proof of identity, a proof of address, and a proof of birthdate.

 

Under normal circumstances, two weeks are needed to process the application and deliver the PAN card, if everything is in order.

Are there any charges to be paid for obtaining the PAN?

Per the PAN application, the applicant must pay a cost of Rs. 93 plus any relevant service tax. The PAN application processing fee is Rs. 864 (Rs. 93 application fees and Rs. 771 delivery charges), plus any applicable service tax if the PAN card is to be sent outside of India.

Is it mandatory to file a return of income after getting a PAN?

Only if you are required to file a return of income under section 139 must a return be filed. After receiving a PAN, filing a tax return is not required.
