August 5, 2024: The stretch from Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension spanning 2.5 kilometre (km) on the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg under Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 project is expected to be opened by the end of August, mentioned media reports. The commissioner of Delhi Metro Railway inspected the Krishna Park station on July 30, 2024.
As cited in media reports, DMRC managing director Vikas Kumar said the inspection of the new section has been completed. The authority will incorporate all recommendations suggested and expects to open it by August-end.
The Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg is underground and has only one underground station. It will be an extension of the Magenta Line that connects Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden. The Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg section is expected to be completed by March 2026.
How will the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension section benefit commuters?
Once operational, the Krishna Park Extension station will benefit neighbouring localities as commuters will not have to go to the Janakpuri West station to board the metro. The station is equipped with advanced facilities, including platform screen doors for crowd management and to ensure the safety of commuters, an official said, as cited in a TOI report. The station also features an automatic fare collection system compatible with the National Common Mobility Card (MCMC).
The route will connect areas such as Rohini, Prashant Vihar, North Rohini Campus, Pitampura, Dilli Haat and Central Delhi. The upcoming Delhi Metro Phase 4 expansion lines are expected to enhance connectivity across the city as they will provide alternative routes to access these areas. The project comprises three major corridors, Majlis Park to Maujpur (12.5 km), Aerocity to Tughlakabad (23.6 km) and shortly inaugurating Janakpuri West to RK Ashram (28.9 km) stretch.
