June 11, 2024: The first section of the Phase 4 project of Delhi Metro is expected to open in August 2024. The initial 3-km section will run from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg and will comprise two new stations. The construction works for this segment have been completed. The final safety certifications and inspections are underway before the operations commence on the corridor.
As cited in reports, DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said that the new section is part of the larger 28.9-km Phase-4 project. The entire Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension corridor is nearing completion and the authorities are now focused on the final stages of work and safety preparedness.
The Krishna Park Extension section of the new corridor will be at ground level and the Janakpuri West portion will be elevated. The completion of all corridors under Phase 4 is progressing in an even manner and the project is expected to be fully operational by March 2026.
The Phase 4 expansion project is expected to boost connectivity across the city and connect areas such as Rohini, Prashant Vihar, North Rohini Campus, Pitampura, Dilli Haat and Central Delhi.
The project includes three major corridors, Majlis Park to Maujpur (12.5 kms), Aerocity to Tughlakabad (23.6 kms) and shortly inaugurating Janakpuri West to RK Ashram (28.9 kms) stretch.
The process of getting statutory clearances for the construction of two newly passed corridors under Phase IV has been initiated by the DMRC. An additional 2.5 lakh daily commuters will expect a benefit from the Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block corridor and Inderlok to Indraprastha corridor.
With a projected cost of Rs 8,399 crore, the corridors are expected to be completed by 2028, aiming to expand the metro network and enhance connectivity across South, Central and East Delhi.
