Line 1 of the Mumbai Metro is the city’s first fast transit metro line, connecting the neighbourhoods of Versova, Andheri, and Ghatkopar. From Versova to Ghatkopar, along this elevated metro track, you’ll find 12 stops. The installation of Mumbai’s Metro Rail Network was a significant step forward for the city. An increase of 84% from the original price of 2,356 crores per the signed contract in March 2007 brings the total estimated cost of Mumbai Metro Line 1 to 4,321 crores. Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the cornerstone for the first section of the Mumbai Metro on June 21, 2006.
Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL), a joint venture company owned by Reliance Infrastructure (69%), MMRDA (26%), and Veolia Transport (5%), was awarded the Line 1 metro project in March 2007.
The first segment of Line 1 began service on June 8, 2014.
