What is the EWS certification?

EWS is a new subcategory of the general category for reservations. It is a type of reservation program that went into force in 2019. On January 12, 2019, the President of India passed the EWS bill. Gujarat became the first state to implement this law on January 14, 2019.

To claim the 10% EWS reservation for any government job or admission to higher education, candidates must produce a valid EWS certificate issued by the appropriate authority.

EWS reservation plan has been introduced to provide 10% reservation in direct recruitment in civil posts & services in the Government of India to persons belonging to the EWS category who are not covered by any other reservation scheme such as SC, ST, or OBC. Criteria for EWS certificate eligibility

Check the qualifying criteria listed below to apply for the EWS certificate in order to qualify for the EWS reservation category benefits:

General Class

The applicant must fall within the general category. No caste certificate shall be issued in his name.

EWS reservation is only for candidates in the general category.

 

Family Earnings

The candidate’s annual household income must be less than Rs. 8 lakhs per year.

It is meant to cover all sources of family income, such as agriculture, private employment, business, pay, etc.

 

Agricultural Land

The candidate or his family cannot own at least 5 acres of agricultural property.

To be eligible for EWS reservation benefits, the candidate’s or his family’s agricultural land must not exceed 5 acres in size.

If the candidate does not meet this requirement, they will not be entitled to reservation benefits.

 

Residences

If a candidate or his family owns a residential apartment, it must be less than 100 square feet in size.

Residential Plot

The residential plot owned by the candidate or his family must be less than 100 square yards in an area designated by the municipality.

The residential plot that the candidate or his family owns must be less than 200 square yards in size and be located in a non-notified municipality section.

 

Family 

Included in each of the foregoing eligibility requirements is the term “FAMILY.” The phrase Family will only refer to the following members of the candidate’s family:

  • Candidate
  • Parental candidates
  • Siblings of the candidate under the age of 18 years
  • Candidate’s partner
  • Children of the candidate under the age of 18 years

 

Individuals whose families own the following assets (regardless of family income) will not be classified as EWS:

  • 5 acres or more of agricultural land,
  • Residential plots of 100 square yards or more in municipalities that have been notified.
  • The residential area greater than one thousand square feet,
  • Residential property of 200 square yards or more outside of the designated localities.

 

How to fill out the application for the EWS certificate?

The EWS certificate issuance application can be submitted online or offline. It depends entirely on the state government. To submit an online application, you must visit the issuing authority’s official website, pick the appropriate link, and follow the on-screen instructions. States such as Andhra Pradesh offer citizens an online facility for submitting applications.

In the case of offline applications, the application form must be collected from the issuing authorities. Additionally, the application format can be downloaded from the official websites. Applicants must include all essential documentation with the application form. When applying, they must have the following documents and information with them:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Proof of Identification 
  • Affidavit/Self Declaration
  • Land/property records
  • Residential proof/Domicile 
  • Photograph of passport size
  • Other pertinent documents
