Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is an Indian multi-national company that was established in 1946 in Bombay, now Mumbai. This 77-year old company has been responsible for the construction of many landmark projects in the country. Check out the prominent projects from L&T in this guide.

Ayodhya Ram Temple

Built within a 70-acre complex, the temple has been designed with the Nagara style of architecture.  The three storey temple has a  height of 161.75 ft, 380 ft length and is 249.5 ft wide. In addition to the main Shikar, the Ayodhya Ram Temple has five mandaps namely Nritya Mandap, Rang Mandap, Gudh Mandap, Kirtan Mandap and Prarthana Mandap.

ISRO’s Moon Mission – Chandrayaan-3

India’s third Moon Mission Chandrayaan-3 entered its final stage on August 23, 2023.  India achieved soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface at 6:04 PM. India is the fourth country in the world to achieve soft landing and the first country in the world to land near the Lunar South Pole.

The space hardware for India’s third Moon mission was produced at L&T’s Aerospace Manufacturing Facility at Coimbatore The critical booster segments- head end segment, middle segment and nozzle bucket flange, with a diameter of 3.2 meter were manufactured and proof pressure tested at L&T’s Facility in Powai.

Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023. It was launched  from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre Second Launch Pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Chandrayaan-3 entered the lunar orbit on  August 5, 2023.

 

Statue of Unity

Larsen & Toubro has constructed the tallest statue in the world- the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.  The statue is two times the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York.  Around 3,000 workers and over 250 engineers worked on the construction of this Sardar Vallabhai Patel statue.

 

Motera Cricket Stadium

L&T has designed and built the world’s largest cricket stadium- the Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad. This is the venue for the opening and closing matches of the ICC World Cup 2023 that will start from October 5, 2023. The stadium has a seating capacity of over one lakh people. The stadium includes a clubhouse, a swimming pool of Olympic standards, an indoor cricket academy, presidential and special corporate boxes and a podium level.

 

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL)

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL)also known as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri Nhava Sheva Atal Setu is 21.8 km and is the longest bridge in India. It is also the 12th longest sea-bridge in the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the longest sea-bridge on January 12, 2024. The MTHL  connects Sewri to Navi Mumbai’s Chirle. The construction of the MTHL was divided into three packages, of which L&T is responsible for package 1 and package 3. The package 1 was a multi-level interchange at Sewri and a 10.38 km 6-lane marine bridge from Sewri to Thane creek.  The package 3 included construction of a 3.6 Km, 6- lane land bridge at Navi Mumbai including interchanges, rail over bridges and toll plazas. L&T is executed the MTHL project in partnership with IHI Corporation, Japan.

 

The Baha’i Temple

L&T is responsible for the construction of the Baha’i Temple or the Lotus Temple which was designed by architect Fariburz Sabha.  An interesting feature about this lotus-shaped structure is that there is no single straight line and everything is in doubly curved shells.
