Who allots Lavani Patta land?
Land is a state subject, governed under the laws formulated by the state revenue department. The Telangana revenue department manages this land. The responsibility to allocate the Lavani Patta land usually lies with the Tehsildar, a local term used for a revenue officer.
Can Lavani Patta land be transferred?
To ensure that the government land is not misused for profit generating activities, the state government has banned trading of Lavani Patta land. This means you cannot transfer this land to anybody. However, former freedom fighters have been given the option to sell the land after 12 years of ownership.
In short, an allottee should not transfer Lavani Patta land to another person by way of sale, gift, or lease.
“Any land assigned by the government to a landless poor person for purposes of cultivation or as a house-site shall not be transferred and shall be deemed never to have been transferred; and accordingly, no right, or title in such assigned land shall vest in any person acquiring the land by such transfer,” says the Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act.
