Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor gets NPG approval

The Lucknow Metro’s proposed East-West corridor will connect Charbagh with Vasankunj.

July 12, 2024: In a move that will boost metro connectivity in Lucknow, the National Planning Group (NPG) under PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity has approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the Lucknow Metro extension project – the East-West Corridor. The NPG approved the technical feasibility of all railway and highway projects in the country.

In March 2024, the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath granted clearance for this project. The East-West corridor aims to connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj and will be crucial for the Old City area. Estimated to cost Rs 5,081 crore, the project got the NPG’s approval when it met in Delhi on July 9, 2024. The meeting was chaired by the additional secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy Promotion.

Following the NPG, the Public Investment Board (PIB) requires the approval of the project’s DPR by the Union Cabinet after the project’s approval.
