The Madiwala Lake, also known as the BTM Lake, is one of the biggest and oldest lakes in Bangalore. Built during the Chola Dynasty, this picturesque waterbody is nearly about 300 years old. During those days, the lake was used by washermen who were called ‘madiwalas’, giving it its name. After a major clean-up by the Karnataka State Forest Department in 2008, the lake was restored to its former glory. Today, the Madiwala Lake is a major attraction for nature lovers in the city, with a huge waterbody spanning 114.3 hectare brimming with a rich biodiversity. People frequent the lake regularly for nature walks, boat rides, bird watching and photography.
